Who is Aaron Lennon?
Early life and schooling
Aaron Justin Lennon was born in Leeds, United Kingdom, on April 16, 1987. He grew up with a younger brother and a younger sister, and he attended Boston Spa Academy as well as City of Leeds High School. Scouts first noticed his athletic ability when he was only eight years old.
His older brother Anthony previously played for the youth team of Manchester United. Aaron developed a passion for the sport early in life, which paved the way for his professional career in association football.
Leeds United career
Aaron Lennon joined the Leeds United Academy in 2001. He set a well-known record as the youngest player ever to have his boots sponsored when he signed an agreement with Adidas at the age of fourteen.
He made his first team debut for Leeds United in August 2003 during a match against Tottenham Hotspur. At sixteen years and 129 days old, he became the youngest player to appear in the Premier League at that time. He later scored his sole goal for Leeds against Sunderland in December 2004.
Tottenham Hotspur success
Due to financial difficulties at Leeds, Aaron Lennon moved to Tottenham Hotspur in June 2005 for a fee of one million pounds. He made numerous appearances across all competitions for the club, establishing himself as a key winger.
In February 2008, he won his first major career honour when Tottenham defeated Chelsea in the League Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. He also earned nominations for the PFA Young Player of the Year award during his time with the club.
Everton and Burnley
Aaron Lennon joined Everton on loan in February 2015 before making the transfer permanent later that year for a reported fee of four and a half million pounds. He scored several goals during his spell with Everton before moving to Burnley in January 2018 on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
He later played for Turkish club Kayserispor before returning to Burnley for a second stint. He officially announced his retirement from professional football in November 2022.
