Biography
Who is Adonxs?
Early life and education
Born in Myjava and raised in Senica, Slovakia, Adam Pavlovčin developed an interest in performing arts during his childhood. He was inspired by his sister, Radka Pavlovčinová, and began taking singing lessons, piano classes, and joining a junior dance crew. During his teenage years, his voice underwent a significant change, dropping from a tenor to a basso profondo range, which led him to pause his singing career.
Instead, he focused on street dance and achieved success as a five-time Slovak Champion in International Dance Organization disciplines. At fifteen, he relocated to Bratislava to attend the C. S. Lewis Bilingual High School. While living there, he studied acting at an academy within the New Scene theater. Later, he moved to Prague to receive vocal training from opera singer Hana Peckova, which helped him expand his vocal range.
Rise to fame and SuperStar victory
Before his solo breakthrough, he formed a music group named Pace in London with composer Adrián Čermák. The band released an EP titled Keeper in 2018 and performed at various London venues and festivals, including opening for Grace Carter. Following the disruption of live music during the pandemic, he returned to the Czech Republic.
In 2021, he became widely recognized after winning the seventh season of SuperStar, the joint Czech-Slovak singing competition. He was the first openly queer winner of the series. His performances, which often featured gender-neutral clothing, sparked public discussion about his artistic choices. He stated that his victory served as an important step for queer entertainers in the region.
Solo music career
After winning SuperStar, he signed with Warner and began working on his debut solo project. He adopted the stage name Adonxs, a concept he developed during his university years to assist with stage fright and performance liberation. The name draws inspiration from the Greek mythological figure Adonis.
His debut single, Moving On, reached number one on the SK Top 50 Chart. He subsequently released the album Age of Adonxs in November 2022, which was recognized as the best album of that year in Slovakia by Musicserver. The album included singles like Game and Cold Summer. He received multiple accolades, including Best Male Artist and Best New Artist at the Evropa 2 Music Awards.
