Who is Ajay Devgn?
Early life and background
Ajay Devgn was born on April 2, 1968, in New Delhi, India, into a Punjabi Hindu family originating from Amritsar, Punjab. His father, Virender Veeru Devgan, worked as a stunt choreographer and action film director, while his mother, Veena Devgan, is a film producer. His cousin Anil Devgan was also involved in the film industry as a filmmaker and screenwriter. Growing up with deep connections to the Mumbai film industry, he completed his education at Silver Beach High School in Juhu before studying at Mithibai College.
When he entered the film industry in 1991, he changed his stage name from his birth name, Vishal, to Ajay because several other actors named Vishal were being launched at the same time. Later, in August 2009, he adjusted the spelling of his surname from Devgan to Devgn at the family's request.
Rise to prominence
Ajay Devgn made his acting debut in the 1991 action romance Phool Aur Kaante alongside Madhoo, which established him as a leading star and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In his famous opening scene, he performed a split while balancing between two moving motorcycles. He followed this with several action and romantic films during the early and mid-1990s, including Jigar, Vijaypath, Suhaag, Dilwale, and Ishq.

Ajay Devgn began a relationship with actress Kajol while they were co-starring in Gundaraj. The couple married on February 24, 1999, in a traditional Maharashtrian Hindu ceremony at the Devgan home. They have two children together, a daughter named Nysa and a son named Yug. Deeply connected to his traditions, he is a practising Shaiva Hindu who prominently wears a rudraksha. He and his family reside in India, maintaining strong ties to the cultural and cinematic roots of Mumbai.
