Who is Alison Doody?
Early life
Alison Doody was born in Dublin, Ireland, as the youngest of three children. Her mother, Joan, worked as a beauty therapist, while her father, Patrick, engaged in farming and the property business. During her youth, she attended Mount Anville Secondary School in her home city.
A photographer approached her and introduced her to modeling, which eventually grew into a commercial career. She deliberately avoided glamour and nude modeling work throughout this period, a principle she maintained when she later transitioned into acting.
Film and television career
The casting director of a James Bond film noticed Alison Doody and cast her as Jenny Flex in A View to a Kill in 1985. At just eighteen years old during production, she became the youngest Bond girl to date. She subsequently appeared as Siobhan Donovan in A Prayer for the Dying in 1987 and played Lilias in a television adaptation of The Secret Garden.
She secured her first lead role in a 1988 episode of the fantasy series The Storyteller. That same year, she acted opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film Taffin. Her highest profile role followed in 1989 when she portrayed Austrian archaeologist and Nazi sympathizer Elsa Schneider in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, starring alongside Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.
After relocating to Hollywood, Alison Doody starred as Flannery in Major League II in 1994, playing opposite Charlie Sheen. Following a nearly decade long break from the screen, she returned to acting with roles in The Actors in 2003 and King Solomon's Mines in 2004. Her later credits include the television series Beaver Falls in 2011 and the Indian film RRR in 2019.
Personal life
Alison Doody married Gavin O'Reilly on June 25, 1994, at the O'Reilly family residence known as Castlemartin. The couple had two daughters together named Alanna. They resided at Bartra House in Dalkey before separating in 2004 and finalizing their divorce in 2006.
While filming Beaver Falls in South Africa during 2011, she met Douglas De Jager, a Cape Town packaging tycoon. They maintained a relationship until his death from a heart attack in July 2012. She was later engaged to businessman Tadhg Geary from 2014 to 2015.
