Who is Amrita Bakshi?
Early life and career beginnings
Amrita Bakshi was born in Jaipur, India. She is the daughter of Prakash Bakshi, who served as the chairman of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. Academically, she pursued higher education at Mithibai College and later earned a master's degree in Commerce and Business Administration from The University of Mumbai.
Her professional path started at the age of four when she began appearing in advertisements. Her initial work included a commercial for a footwear company based in Kerala. Throughout her childhood, she appeared in more than 50 advertisements for major brands such as Rasna, Ruffles Lays, Glucon-D, and Dabur. She also served as the face of Lifebuoy Soaps packaging for two years.
Television and hosting work
Amrita entered the television industry at age nine, appearing in a drama show alongside actor Gautami Gadgil. Following this, she secured a position as an anchor for the program Fox Kids on Star Plus. She remained with the cartoon show for five years, where her character became a popular figure among younger audiences.
As a teenager, she continued to balance acting and hosting. When she was 14, she co-anchored the reality series Kya Masti Kya Dhoom with actress Sonali Bendre. This project lasted for two years. Later, she appeared as a lead protagonist in the Zee TV drama Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai and starred as Dipika in the Sony Pal series Ek Rishta Aisa Bhi.
Film career and major roles
She achieved significant recognition with her debut film performance in 2001, playing the character Milli in Anubhav Sinha's romantic drama Tum Bin. This role helped establish her presence in the Bollywood film industry. In 2004, she appeared in the Malayalam film Manjupoloru Penkutty, directed by Kamal, where she portrayed a schoolgirl facing personal adversity. Her performance in this project earned her a nomination for a National Award as Best Actress by the State.
One of her most well-known professional milestones was playing the character Chhoti in Sooraj Barjatya's film Vivah. She has often described this project as a major turning point in her career, noting the guidance she received from the director. She later appeared in the film Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi as the character Sandhya and held a supporting role in the Dharma Productions film We Are Family. In 2024, she appeared in the music video Humnava, which featured vocals by Gaurav Sharma.
