Biography
Who is Andy Robertson?
Early life and schooling
Andy Robertson was born in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on March 11, 1994. He grew up with his parents, Brian and Pauline, and an elder brother named Stephen. His grandmother was born in Glenfarne, giving him Irish descent.
He attended St Ninian's High School in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, from 2006 to 2012. During his school years, he captained the football team and also served as the junior captain of his local golf club in Glasgow.
Club career beginnings
Andy Robertson started his youth career playing for Giffnock Soccer Centre and later joined the youth setup at Celtic. At age fifteen, Celtic released him because he was considered too small. Following this setback, he joined Queen's Park in Glasgow's South side.
Manager Gardner Speirs called him up to the Queen's Park first team for the 2012 to 2013 season. He made his senior debut on July 28, 2012, in a Scottish Challenge Cup match against Berwick Rangers. Because Queen's Park was an amateur club at the time, players were only paid expenses, leading Andy to work various part-time jobs including ticket booking and retail.
Professional breakthrough
On June 3, 2013, Andy Robertson signed for Scottish Premiership side Dundee United alongside his teammate Aidan Connolly. He quickly established himself in the team, scoring his first goal against Motherwell in September 2013 and winning the SPFL young player of the month award.
In April 2014, he won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award and reached the Scottish Cup Final with Dundee United. His strong performances led to a transfer to English Premier League club Hull City in July 2014 for a fee of £2.85 million.
