Who is Ansu Fati?
Early life
Ansu Fati was born on October 31, 2002, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, and grew up as an ethnic Manjak. He moved to Seville with his family when his older brother Braima signed to play for Sevilla.
Before joining a major youth academy, Ansu played for a local team named Herrera and spent time in the youth system of Sevilla. He then moved to Barcelona's La Masia youth academy at the age of ten, following the path of his brother.
Club career
Ansu signed his first professional contract with Barcelona in July 2019 and quickly made his senior debut in La Liga against Real Betis. He scored his first professional goal for the club in August 2019 in a match against Osasuna, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Barcelona senior team history.
During his time with Barcelona, Ansu achieved several youth milestones, including becoming the youngest player to score and assist in the same La Liga match during a fixture against Valencia. He also made his debut in the UEFA Champions League and scored his first goal in the competition against Inter Milan.
International career
Eligible to represent Guinea-Bissau, Ansu instead received Spanish citizenship in September 2019 and renounced his Bissau-Guinean citizenship. He began representing the country by playing for the Spain under-21 team against Montenegro.
Ansu made his full international debut for the Spain national football team in September 2020 during a match against Germany. He scored his first international goal against Ukraine, becoming the national team's youngest ever goalscorer at that time.

Before his injuries, pundits considered Ansu to be one of the most promising young players in world football, drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi. He is a versatile forward capable of playing on either flank, as a central striker, as a false nine, or as an attacking midfielder.
