Who is Ashlee Simpson?
Early life and family
Ashlee Nicole Simpson was born in Waco, Texas, on October 3, 1984. Her parents are Tina Ann Drew and Joe Simpson, and she has an older sister named Jessica Simpson. The family later relocated to Los Angeles, California, in 1999 as Jessica pursued a career in the music industry. During her childhood, Ashlee studied classical ballet and later enrolled at the School of American Ballet in New York City.
Before transitioning into pop music and acting, she appeared in television commercials and worked as a backup dancer on tour for her sister. She also made a guest appearance on the television show Malcolm in the Middle and secured a small role in the comedy film The Hot Chick.
Rise to fame and reality television
Ashlee expanded her television career by joining the cast of the family drama 7th Heaven, portraying the character Cecilia Smith across forty episodes. She also gained increased public attention by appearing on the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which featured her sister and brother-in-law.

Ashlee achieved a major musical breakthrough with her 2004 debut single, Pieces of Me, which reached the top five of the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Her debut studio album, Autobiography, was released in July 2004 through Geffen Records and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The album sold millions of copies worldwide and became her most commercially successful release.
In October 2004, she appeared as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, where a vocal track error during her performance generated widespread media attention. Despite the incident, she continued promoting the album and later released her second studio album, I Am Me, which also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
Later projects and stage acting
Following her early music success, Ashlee transitioned into stage acting and theatrical productions. She portrayed Roxie Hart in a West End production of Chicago and later made her Broadway debut reprising the same role. She also joined the cast of the Melrose Place television revival in 2009.
In later years, she released music with her husband, Evan Ross, through an extended play titled Ashlee + Evan, supported by a reality television series of the same name. In April 2026, she won season fourteen of The Masked Singer.
