Early life and family
Cecilia Cheung was born on May 24, 1980, in Man Wah Sun Chuen, Jordan, Hong Kong. Her mother, Davies Shally, is of mixed Chinese and British heritage, and her father, Cheung Yan-yung, was a triad member sometimes known as Bearded Yung. Her parents divorced when she was nine years old.
At the age of fourteen, Cecilia was sent to Melbourne to live with her aunt. While in Australia, she attended Camberwell Girls Grammar School. She has one elder half-sister, two younger brothers, and a younger half-brother from her father's side.
Film career and rise to fame
In 1998, Cecilia appeared in a television advertisement for lemon tea, which led to her being discovered by filmmaker Stephen Chow. Her debut film role was a call girl in Chow's 1999 production King of Comedy. This film became the highest-grossing local production of that year and launched her into the spotlight.
