Who is Cecilia Roth?
Early life and family
Cecilia Edith Rotenberg Gutkin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her father, Abrasha Rotenberg, moved to Argentina during the 1930s from Ukraine. He worked as a journalist, editor, and writer. Her mother, Dina Gutkin, was a singer known professionally as Dina Rot. She was born in Mendoza and lived in Santiago de Chile during her younger years.
Her brother is Ariel Rot, a well-known musician in Argentina and Spain. He previously played in the group Los Rodriguez. Cecilia grew up in a family with strong ties to the arts and media, which influenced her path into the entertainment industry.
Acting career beginnings
Cecilia Roth began her acting career in Argentina. In 1976, she relocated to Spain during the military dictatorship. She quickly established herself in the Spanish film industry. Her early work included appearances in The Green Meadows by director José Luis Garci and Rapture by Iván Zulueta.
She also collaborated early on with Pedro Almodóvar. She appeared in his film Labyrinth of Passion and later in Pepi, Luci, Bom. These roles helped define her as a significant figure in Spanish cinema during the 1980s.

Cecilia was married to Gonzalo Gil before her marriage to the Argentine singer-songwriter Fito Páez. During her relationship with Páez, they adopted a son named Martín. The musician Joaquin Sabina wrote a song titled Cecilia about the couple. She has maintained a career that spans both film and theater work in Argentina and Spain. She recently collaborated with Darío Grandinetti on the stage play Una relación pornográfica, written by Philippe Blasband.
