Who is Dan Reynolds?
Early life and education
Dan Reynolds was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He grew up as one of nine children in a family where his father worked as an author and lawyer. As a young boy, he participated in the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2005.
He attended Bonanza High School before moving on to higher education. He eventually studied at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Later, he attended Brigham Young University, where he focused his studies on music, marketing, and communications.
Music career and Imagine Dragons
While studying at BYU, Dan Reynolds helped form the pop rock group Imagine Dragons in 2008. The band won a local Battle of the Bands competition during his time at the university. He eventually left school to commit to a professional music career. The group later moved to Las Vegas and performed as a lounge act before finding success.
The band released their debut album, Night Visions, in 2012. This record featured the hit single Radioactive, which spent many weeks at the top of the Billboard Rock Songs chart. Other successful tracks from this era included It's Time and Demons. The group has since released several other albums, including Smoke + Mirrors, Evolve, Origins, Mercury, and Loom.
Beyond his work with the band, Dan Reynolds has worked as a record producer and songwriter. He formed the label Night Street Records in 2016. Through this imprint, he has worked with artists such as K.Flay and Benson Boone. He also collaborated on the EP Egyptian with Aja Volkman in 2010.
Charity work and personal life
Dan Reynolds organized the Loveloud festival to support LGBTQ youth and combat teen suicide. The first event took place in Orem in 2017, with proceeds going to organizations like GLAAD and The Trevor Project. Subsequent festivals were held in Salt Lake City and West Valley City to raise money for various charities.
In terms of his personal history, he served as a full-time missionary in Nebraska for two years when he was 19. He was previously a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but stated in 2022 that he is no longer a practicing member. He has been married to Aja Volkman.
