Biography
Who is Daniela Romo?
Early life and background
Teresita Presmanes Corona was born on August 27, 1959, in Mexico City, Mexico. She was raised alongside her sister Patricia by their grandmother. As a young girl, she looked up to the performer Rocío Dúrcal. This admiration influenced her decision to pursue acting and music as a profession.
Early career and music debut
Before her solo music career, she began as a backup singer for Los Hermanos Zavala. She eventually transitioned into stage productions, including a role in the show Gypsy. Her television career started early when she appeared in the film La casa del pelícano at age seventeen. Shortly after, she took on her first soap opera role in 1978 for El Ardiente Secreto, an adaptation of the novel Jane Eyre.
In 1979, the producer Chucho Ferrer helped her record her debut album, También Yo. The songs were written by Lolita de la Colina. The record did not achieve immediate success with the public, who were not accustomed to the mature ballad style from such a young artist. Despite this, she continued working in television and gained notice for her role in the 1982 soap opera Déjame vivir.
Musical success and breakthrough
Her music career accelerated significantly in 1983 after she traveled to Spain and connected with producer Danilo Vaona. She signed with the label Hispavox and released her album titled Daniela Romo. Her single Mentiras gained immediate attention in Spain. Her subsequent EMI debut album produced major hits such as Celos, Pobre Secretaria, and the ballad Corazón, which became the theme for the show Un Sólo Corazón.
In 1984, she released her third album, Amor Prohibido. This record featured her international success Yo No Te Pido La Luna, which became a staple across Latin America and Spain. By 1986, she secured her status in Mexico with the hit song De Mí Enamórate, written by Juan Gabriel for the telenovela El Camino Secreto. The track dominated the charts, spending twenty-one weeks at the number one position in Mexico and fourteen weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks in the United States.
Television and stage roles
Daniela Romo maintained a busy schedule in television. After a hiatus, she returned to acting in the 1995 hit Si Dios me quita la vida. She hosted the variety show Hoy con Daniela in 1996 and later the game show A Millón in 2001. Her acting range expanded as she took on villainous roles, such as her character in the 2001 soap El Manantial.
Her stage work included producing the musical Cabaret in 2006 and starring in Victor/Victoria in 2009. She also appeared in several television series during the 2000s, including Mujeres asesinas in 2008, Sortilegio in 2009, and Triunfo del amor in 2010. Her work in period soaps received positive attention, particularly her role as Doña Juana in the 2005 production Alborada.
