Biography
Who is Dean Schneider?
Early life and inspiration
Dean Schneider was born in Zurich, Switzerland. He spent his youth following the work of Steve Irwin. This led him to develop an interest in nature from a young age.
Business and move to South Africa
At 21, Dean started a financial company. He later sold this business to focus on wildlife conservation. In 2017, he moved to South Africa to pursue this goal.
Dean Schneider then founded the Hakuna Mipaka Oasis. This sanctuary serves as a home for rescued animals. He uses Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube to share his wildlife work and conservation.
The Hakuna Mipaka Oasis
The sanctuary covers 400 hectares of land. Its name means no limits in the Swahili language. The facility houses meerkats, hyenas, reptiles, and capuchin monkeys.
Lions and cheetahs also live at the sanctuary. The Live Wild Reserve is a specific area for rescued lions. Some animals go through rehabilitation programs to return to the wild.
The site remains private for the safety of the animals. Dean does not allow tourists or the general public to visit the location.
Financials and animal welfare investigation
Maintaining the sanctuary causes financial strain for Dean Schneider. He stated that social media earnings do not cover all costs. The COVID-19 pandemic reduced the amount of donations he received. He has been hesitant to partner with large brands.
In May 2020, The Times reported an investigation by a South African animal welfare agency. Dean Schneider was accused of striking a lion cub on the paw after it scratched his face. He denied any harm and said he was teaching the animal boundaries for pride acceptance. The case ended without any consequences.
Birthday and age
