Biography
Who is Dexter Holland?
Early life and education
Bryan Keith Holland was born on December 29, 1965, in Garden Grove, California. During his time at Pacifica High School, he excelled in mathematics and graduated as his class valedictorian in 1984. He earned the nickname Dexter because of his academic performance, which came from the slang term Poindexter.
After high school, he enrolled at the University of Southern California. There, he earned both a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Master of Science in molecular biology. Although he paused his academic path to focus on his band, he eventually completed his formal education by earning a PhD in molecular biology in May 2017.
Music career and the Offspring
He began playing music in 1984 when he formed the band Manic Subsidal with his friend Greg Kriesel. He initially played the drums for the group, but he later switched to guitar and vocals after the band recruited a different drummer. Kevin Wasserman joined the lineup, and in 1986, the group changed its name to the Offspring. They released their first self-titled album in 1989 through Nemesis Records.
The band achieved major commercial success with their 1994 album Smash, which set a record for the highest sales of an album on an independent label. Throughout his time with the band, he has contributed to numerous albums, including Americana, Conspiracy of One, and the 2024 release Supercharged. He is the only constant member of the group, appearing on every studio album since their debut. He also sings in the tenor range and occasionally plays the piano during live performances of songs like Gone Away.

His doctoral thesis explored the use of computational molecular biological approaches to identify how these sequences might allow the virus to persist and replicate within a host.

The sauce grew from his passion for Mexican cuisine and is now available in thousands of stores and restaurants.
