Who is Edward Maya?
Early life and education
Edward Maya was born in Bucharest, Romania, on June 29, 1986. He grew up sharing a passion for music that eventually shaped his professional path in the entertainment industry.
For his formal education, Edward attended the National University of Music Bucharest to refine his musical skills and composition techniques.
Rise to fame and career
Edward started collaborating with various Romanian artists around 2006, working alongside performers like Akcent and Vika Jigulina. He also contributed to the song Tornerò, performed by Mihai Trăistariu at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, which he noted as the beginning of his career.
In the summer of 2009, Edward launched his debut song as a lead artist titled Stereo Love. The track reached number two on the Romanian singles chart and quickly transformed into a major international hit in clubs across the globe.
Following his breakthrough, the single entered the top five singles charts in numerous countries, including Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. This big success led to a demanding schedule of concerts worldwide.
Building on his early achievements, Edward released his second single, This Is My Life, in May 2010. To maintain full creative control over his work and create opportunities for other musicians, he established his own record label named Mayavin Records.
Subsequent projects and music
Continuing his output, Edward released his third single, Desert Rain, on Christmas night worldwide, supporting it with an extensive tour that included stops in India, Europe, the United States, South Africa, and Pakistan. He later released his fourth single, Mono in Love, in November 2012, once again featuring Vika Jigulina.
Beyond his solo discography, Edward expanded his creative ventures into voice acting. He voiced the character Grug in the Romanian language dub for the 2020 animated feature film Onward.
In February 2026, Edward was named an automatic finalist in the San Marino Song Contest 2026, serving as the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Performing alongside William Imola with the song Balla, they finished outside of the top four positions.
