Who is Fahad Albutairi?
Early life and education
Fahad Albutairi was born in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. He began his path into comedy while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. He completed his degree there in December 2007.
His initial comedic material focused on his experiences as a Saudi international student living in America after the events of 9/11. He found his footing through open mic sessions at comedy clubs in Austin.
Comedy career highlights
He made his professional debut in the Arab World on October 2, 2008, in Bahrain. This performance was part of the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, where he opened for Maz Jobrani and Ahmed Ahmed. In 2009, he won a stand-up contest in Amman, beating 65 other English-speaking contestants.
Fahad Albutairi has shared stages with international performers like Gabriel Iglesias and Sebastian Maniscalco. He performed in Yemen's first stand-up show in 2010 and participated in the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival. In 2016, he became the first Saudi professional comedian to perform at the Hollywood Laugh Factory.
In 2013, media outlets including The Washington Post and The National referred to him as the Seinfeld of Saudi Arabia. He also served as a judge for the Kit Kat Comedy Break Show, a large online competition in the region.
YouTube and Telfaz11
In 2010, he launched the La Yekthar Show on YouTube alongside Ibraheem Alkhairallah. The channel grew rapidly, reaching one million subscribers by its third season. The show used characters to represent various socio-political issues in Saudi Arabia, such as corruption and unemployment.
The success of his digital content helped establish the Telfaz11 network. He worked with various channels in this network before leaving in 2016 to pursue television and film projects. One spin-off, Temsa7LY, features a crocodile puppet and has earned over 100 million views.

Fahad Albutairi was married to Loujain al-Hathloul. He was reportedly returned from Jordan to Saudi Arabia due to her work as a women's rights activist.
