Who is Fernanda Lima?
Early life and background
Fernanda Lima was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, on June 25, 1977. She is one of three children born to two professors of physical education, having two brothers named Rodrigo and Rafael. As a child, she showed an early interest in journalism and the arts, often creating choreographies for family gatherings. She even went to the streets with her cousins carrying cameras to research voting at elections and edited the material at home.
Fernanda began her modeling career at the age of fourteen after being discovered by a photographer. She ended up living for five months in Japan, Milan, and Zurich as a teenager. Upon returning to Brazil, she moved to São Paulo and was photographed for dozens of magazine covers and fashion editorials, including L'Officiel, Marie Claire, Elle, and GQ, as well as advertising campaigns in Italy.
Television and film career
In 1999, Fernanda made her television debut on MTV Brazil presenting Mochilão MTV. While working on this programme, she travelled to Hawaii and decided to study Communications, later graduating in journalism from Centro Universitário das Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas. In the same year, she joined RedeTV! And presented programmes such as Interligado and TV Escolha. After nine months, she returned to MTV Brazil to present Mochilão MTV, Luau MTV, and Fica Comigo.
In February 2005, Fernanda was hired by Rede Globo to present Vídeo Show. Soon after, she transitioned to acting and played the protagonist Diana Bullock in the telenovela Bang Bang. Despite receiving criticisms from the press for her lack of acting experience, she later appeared in the film Pé na Jaca as Maria Bo and received better reviews. From 2009 until 2018, she hosted the talk show Amor e Sexo, which focused on sexuality and related topics.
International events and FIFA
Fernanda was contracted by FIFA in July 2010 to present the emblem launching of the 2014 World Cup alongside her husband Rodrigo Hilbert. In July 2011, she hosted the draw of the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers with Tadeu Schmidt. In December 2013, she again presented the drawing of lots for the World Cup alongside her husband, an event viewed by more than 500 million people in 200 countries. Her participation led the foreign media to call her the muse of the World Cup.
During the live broadcast of the draw, the neckline of the dress worn by Fernanda was censored in Iran due to broadcasting guidelines. Casey Stoney also commented on her selection for the role. At the end of 2013, she was included in a list of ten Brazilians who stood out in international news by BBC Brasil. In January 2014, she hosted the FIFA Ballon d'Or alongside Ruud Gullit and later presented an award at the 19th National Television Awards.
Personal life and height
Fernanda stands at a height of 178 centimetres. She is in a relationship with fellow actor and model Rodrigo Hilbert, whom she met at a luau in Ipanema, Rio Grande do Sul. Together, they have twin sons named João and Francisco, and a daughter. She is a fan of Grêmio Football Porto Alegrense, a business partner in a restaurant in São Paulo, a vegetarian, and a practitioner of yoga.
