Biography
Who is Fraser Forster?
Early life and school years
Fraser Forster was born in Hexham, Northumberland, within the United Kingdom. He grew up as the son of Brian Clive Forster, a man who worked as a Queen's Counsel and later served as a circuit judge. For his education, Fraser attended the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle. During his younger years, he did not immediately focus on football. Instead, he spent much of his early time playing cricket and rugby union.
Professional debut and loan moves
Fraser Forster signed his first professional contract with Newcastle United but struggled to find playing time in the first team. He served as the third-choice goalkeeper during the 2007–08 season. To gain experience, he moved to Stockport County on loan in 2008. He made his league debut against Southend United and kept three clean sheets during his six matches with the club. After returning to Newcastle, he soon headed out on another loan to Bristol Rovers in 2009.
Success with Celtic and Southampton
In 2010, Fraser joined Celtic on loan and eventually made the move permanent for a fee of 2.2 million pounds. He became a fan favorite in Scotland and helped the club win multiple league titles and the Scottish Cup. One of his most famous nights came in the Champions League when he performed exceptionally well in a 2–1 victory over Barcelona. His shot-stopping abilities earned him the nickname The Great Wall from the Spanish media. He set a record in the Scottish top flight by going 1,256 minutes without letting in a goal.
England national team and height
Fraser earned his first call-up to the England senior squad in 2012. He had to wait until November 2013 to make his international debut in a match against Chile. His consistent form at the club level led to his inclusion in the 23-man squads for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2016 European Championship. Over several years, he remained a regular figure in the national setup as a reliable backup and occasional starter.
