Biography
Who is Giampaolo Pazzini?
Early life and career beginnings
Giampaolo Pazzini was born in Pescia, Italy. He began his professional path at Atalanta BC in 2003, where he quickly established himself as a young talent. During his first two seasons there, he played 51 league matches and scored 12 goals. Initially, he played as a left back before transitioning into the striker position that defined the rest of his career.
In January 2005, he transferred to ACF Fiorentina for approximately 6 million euros. Although he scored ten goals during his initial season, he struggled to secure a consistent starting position under manager Cesare Prandelli. The team frequently preferred other forwards like Luca Toni, Adrian Mutu, and Alberto Gilardino, which eventually limited his playing time and opportunities on the field.
Time at Sampdoria and Inter Milan
In January 2008, he moved to U.C. Sampdoria for a transfer fee of 9 million euros to seek more playing time. He found success partnering with Antonio Cassano, and the duo became one of the most effective attacking pairs in the league. During his tenure, he scored crucial goals, including a winner against Inter Milan in September 2009 that helped his club lead the table for the first time since 1991. He gained a reputation for his movement in the penalty area and his aerial strength.
Giampaolo Pazzini joined Inter Milan in January 2011 on a four-and-a-half-year contract. His debut was successful, as he scored two goals in a 3-2 victory against Palermo. Throughout his time at the club, he contributed important goals against teams like Fiorentina, Cesena, and Catania. However, during the 2011-12 season, he faced inconsistent playing time and a goal drought, making the majority of his appearances as a substitute off the bench.
AC Milan and Hellas Verona
In August 2012, he transferred to AC Milan in an exchange deal involving Antonio Cassano. His debut season was productive, as he scored a hat-trick against Bologna in his first full start. By the end of that season, he had accumulated 15 Serie A goals in 30 appearances. In May 2015, he reached a milestone by scoring his 100th Serie A goal during a match against Torino.
After his contract with Milan expired, he signed with Hellas Verona in 2015. He later spent time on loan with the Spanish club Levante during the 2017-18 season, where he scored an equalizer against Real Madrid on his debut. He continued playing for Hellas Verona until late 2019, scoring goals against opponents such as SPAL, Lecce, and Juventus before concluding his career.
International play and family life
Giampaolo Pazzini represented the Italian national team at several levels. He was a member of the under-21 squad and famously scored the first hat-trick at the new Wembley Stadium during a 3-3 draw against England in 2007. He debuted for the senior team in March 2009 during a World Cup qualification match against Montenegro. He also participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.
Regarding his personal life, he married Silvia Slitti in 2011 at a venue on Lake Como. The couple had been engaged for ten years prior to their wedding. They have one child together, a son named Tommaso.
