Who is Giselli Monteiro?
Modeling and early career
Giselli Monteiro was born in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. She began working as a model when she was seventeen years old. Throughout her modeling career, she traveled for work to several countries, including Germany, Italy, France, Greece, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
In 2008, she arrived in Mumbai, India. She quickly established herself in the local fashion industry. During her time in India, she represented several brands as a brand ambassador, including PC Jewellers, Movil Mobiles, and Wills Lifestyle.
Acting in Bollywood
Giselli Monteiro started her acting career in the Indian film industry. She auditioned for a role in the 2009 movie Love Aaj Kal, which was directed by Imtiaz Ali. Although she originally aimed to play a different character, the director cast her as the Punjabi girl Harleen Kaur.
The production team kept her identity hidden during the initial promotion of the film. After the movie premiered, her background as a Brazilian model was revealed to the public. The film featured other well-known actors such as Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Transition from film to architecture
Giselli Monteiro appeared on a Brazilian television program called Fantástico on the Rede Globo network in May 2010. During this broadcast, she discussed her experiences living and working in Mumbai.
After appearing in three films, she decided to end her acting career in 2014. Giselli chose to return to her home country to pursue a degree in architecture at the University of Vila Velha in Espírito Santo. She stated that studying architecture was her true passion and that she never intended to stay in the film industry long term.
