Who is Hadise?
Early life and family
Hadise Açıkgöz was born on October 22, 1985, in the town of Mol, Belgium. Her parents immigrated to Belgium from Sivas, Turkey. Her mother, Gülnihal, is of Kumyk descent, while her father, Hasan Açıkgöz, is of Lezgin origin. She grew up in a household with three siblings, including an older sister named Hülya, a younger sister named Derya, and a younger brother named Murat. Her parents divorced when she was eleven years old.
Starting her music career
In 2003, she participated in the first season of Idool, which was the Flemish version of the Pop Idol series. Although she did not qualify for the finals, her performance caught the attention of Johan Hendrickx. He was an industry professional who reached out to her after the show to offer a recording contract. She eventually signed with 2 Brain records.
International success and Eurovision
The singer released her self-titled album in 2008. This project marked a significant moment in her career, as it was her first album to enter the Belgian Album chart. She co-wrote ten of the tracks on the record with Yves Gaillard. The album included the single Deli Oğlan, which became a number-one hit in Turkey. She also faced some media controversy regarding the music video for this song, leading her to remove certain scenes.
Television work and later projects
Beyond her recording career, she has been active in television. She presented the Belgian version of The X Factor. Since 2011, she has also served as a judge on O Ses Türkiye, the Turkish version of The Voice. This role has kept her in the public eye as she continues to develop her music career.
