Who is Happy Salma?
Early life and education
Happy Salma was born on January 4, 1980, in Sukabumi, West Java. Her parents are Dachlan Suhendra and Iis Rohaeni. She is the fourth of six children. Happy studied business administration at Trisakti University and also attended the University of Indonesia. She spent her early years reading and writing.
Acting and directing career
She began her professional path as a model. Happy later acted in Indonesian soap operas called sinetron. These included Bujangan, Kutunggu Cintamu, and Cowok-Cowok Keren. In 2005, she appeared in the movie Gie. This film was the official Indonesian entry for the 78th Academy Awards.
Literature and theater
Happy has a strong interest in Indonesian literature. She published short story collections titled Pulang in 2006 and Telaga Fatamorgana in 2008. Her book Pulang received a nomination for the Khatulistiwa Literary Award. She contributed to several anthologies between 2008 and 2009, such as Titian and Lobakan. In 2010, she co-wrote a novel called Hanya Salju dan Pisau Batu with Pidi Baiq. She also wrote a biography of Desak Nyoman Suarti in 2015.
Jewelry and business
Happy founded Tulola, a jewelry brand, with Sri Luce Rusna and Franka Makarim. She serves as the founder and creative conceptor. The brand uses Indonesian nature and culture for its designs. One example is the Juwita Malam Collection, which was inspired by keroncong music. In 2013, the brand released the Pitaloka Collection based on the Bubat War. The 2015 Women of Bumi Manusia line was inspired by the writing of Pramoedya Ananta Toer.
Family and personal life
On October 3, 2010, Happy married Tjokorda Bagus Dwi Santana Kertayasa. He is a Balinese Prince from Ubud. The wedding took place at the Ubud Palace. They have two children together. Their daughter, Tjokorda Sri Kinandari Kerthyasa, was born in 2015. Their son, Tjokorda Ngurah Rayidaru Kerthyasa, was born in 2018. Upon her marriage, she converted from Islam to Hinduism. This made her a member of the Lordship of Ubud.
