Early life and career beginnings
Hugo Almeida Miguel Pereira de Almeida was born in Figueira da Foz, Portugal. He began his football path at the local club Naval 1º de Maio. While still a junior player, he signed with the major club FC Porto. He first played in the Primeira Liga during a home match against Benfica on September 21, 2003, where he saw three minutes of action.
Success in Germany with Werder Bremen
In 2006, Hugo moved to Germany to join Werder Bremen on a loan deal. He settled in quickly and later signed a permanent four-year contract with the Bundesliga club.
