Who is Jade Ewen?
Early life
Jade Ewen Louise Ewen was born on January 24, 1988, and grew up in Plaistow, London. Her parents are Trevor and Carol Ewen. Because of her parents' disabilities, she acted as a caregiver to them and her two younger siblings, Shereen and Kiel. Jade started taking singing and dancing lessons before she turned four years old. She attended New City Primary School and Brampton Manor Academy before moving to the Sylvia Young Theatre School on a scholarship.
As a child performer, Jade appeared in various television productions including The Bill, Casualty, Mr. Harvey Lights a Candle, and The Ghost Hunter. When she was ten years old, she secured a role as Young Nala in a production of The Lion King after attending an open audition.
Music career and Eurovision
Jade began her professional singing path in a girl group called Trinity Stone, which signed a record deal with Sony BMG in 2005 before disbanding in 2007 without putting out an album. She later released a digital single titled Got You in 2008 under rapper Kwame's label. She also wrote songs for other musical acts such as Booty Luv and Jessica Mauboy.
In January 2009, Jade was chosen to represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest. She performed the song It's My Time, which was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who also accompanied her on the piano. She finished in fifth place at the contest, securing 173 points for her country.
Sugababes and stage work
Later in 2009, Jade joined the popular girl group Sugababes as a replacement for Keisha Buchanan. The trio released the album Sweet 7 in early 2010, which charted at number fourteen on the UK Albums Chart. Their singles included About a Girl and Wear My Kiss. The group later left their record label for a new deal with Sony Music's RCA Records before activities slowed down.
Jade transitioned into theatrical acting and made her West End debut in 2015, playing the character Vanessa in the original London cast of In the Heights. She subsequently portrayed Princess Jasmine in the Disney stage production of Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre.
