Biography
Who is James Morrison?
Early life and musical beginnings
James Morrison Catchpole was born in the town of Rugby, United Kingdom. During his infancy, he survived a severe case of whooping cough, which he credits for his distinctive vocal tone. His parents divorced when he was four years old, and he experienced a childhood influenced by poverty and health challenges. He grew up listening to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and Van Morrison, who shaped his early musical interests.
As a teenager, he learned to play guitar after his uncle Joe taught him a blues riff. He spent time busking at a pub called the Phoenix in Watergate Bay, Cornwall, and practiced his guitar skills on the promenade overlooking Porth beach. He attended Treviglas Community College and Nottingham College. Before his professional career began, he worked in Derby, where he frequented a venue called Ryan's Bar and Scream to perform at open mic nights.
Rise to fame and debut album
James Morrison achieved international breakthrough success with his first single, You Give Me Something. The song reached the top five on the UK Singles Chart and received platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry.
