Who is Jay Idzes?
Early life and career beginnings
Jay Idzes Noah Idzes was born in Mierlo, Netherlands. He started his path in professional football by representing various youth teams within his home country. His initial senior career began with the Eerste Divisie club FC Eindhoven. On April 28, 2018, he played his first league match for Eindhoven, coming on as a substitute during a game against TOP Oss.
After his time at Eindhoven, Jay transferred to the Go Ahead Eagles. The move involved a complicated transfer process where the two clubs initially disagreed on the status of his contract. Eventually, the teams settled the matter with an undisclosed fee. During his time there, he contributed to the team earning a promotion to the Eredivisie and played two full seasons in the top Dutch division.
Professional career in Italy
In the summer of 2023, Jay signed a four-year agreement with the Italian club Venezia. He made a strong impact during his debut season, helping the team achieve promotion to Serie A through the play-offs. This success included a victory over Cremonese in the second leg of the play-off final. By the end of that campaign, he had appeared in 30 matches across all competitions and scored 3 goals.
Jay made history in August 2024 by becoming the first Indonesian player to participate in the Italian top-flight league. His debut occurred during a goalless draw against Fiorentina. By December 28, 2023, he had completed the process to obtain Indonesian citizenship, which made him eligible for national team selection.
He received his first call-up in March 2024 for the FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Vietnam. He made his international debut on March 21, 2024, in a 1-0 victory. Five days later, he scored his first international goal during a 3-0 away win against the same opponent.
