Who is Jung Kook?
Early life and education
Jung Kook was born on September 1, 1997, in Busan, South Korea. His family consists of his parents and an elder brother. During his youth, he attended Baekyang Elementary and Middle School in Busan before transferring to Singu Middle School in Seoul after becoming an idol trainee.
He later attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul, graduating in 2017. He chose to forgo taking the CSATs, which are Korea's nationwide university entrance exams, in November 2016. In March 2022, he received his degree from Global Cyber University's Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment, where he earned the President's Award, which is the school's highest honor.
How Jung became famous
In 2011, Jung Kook auditioned for the South Korean talent show Superstar K during auditions held in Daegu. Although he was not selected for the show, he received casting offers from seven different entertainment companies. He ultimately chose to become a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment after seeing RM, who is his fellow band member and leader in BTS.
To improve his dancing skills ahead of his debut, he traveled to Los Angeles during the summer of 2012 to receive training from Movement Lifestyle. Before his official debut, he also appeared in Jo Kwon's music video for the track 'I'm Da One' and worked as a backup dancer for Glam in June 2012.

On June 12, 2013, Jung Kook made his official debut as a member of BTS with the release of their single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. As part of the group's discography, he recorded several solo tracks, including 'Begin' from the 2016 album Wings, 'Euphoria' from the 2018 release Love Yourself: Answer, and 'My Time' from the 2020 album Map of the Soul: 7.
Aside from his work with BTS, he established a successful solo career with releases such as his debut solo single 'Seven' featuring Latto, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. He also released his debut solo studio album titled Golden in November 2023, setting multiple sales records and producing hit singles like 'Standing Next to You'.

In addition to his music career, he has participated in various television projects, such as appearing on the travel reality series Are You Sure?! Alongside bandmate Jimin. His life and career as a solo artist were also chronicled in the documentary film I Am Still.
