Who is Kaká?
Early life
Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite was born on April 22, 1982, in Gama in the Federal District of Brazil. His mother, Simone dos Santos, worked as an elementary school teacher, and his father, Bosco Izecson Pereira Leite, was a civil engineer. His younger brother is named Digão. His family moved to São Paulo when he was seven years old.
He joined a local youth club called Alphaville and was later discovered by São Paulo FC. At the age of 18, he suffered a serious spinal fracture from a swimming pool accident but made a full recovery. He began his senior football career with São Paulo before moving to Europe.
Club career at AC Milan
Kaká joined Italian club AC Milan in 2003 for a reported fee of €8.5 million. He quickly established himself in the starting lineup as an attacking midfielder, helping Milan win the Serie A title in his first season. He scored ten goals in 30 league appearances during that debut campaign and won the Serie A Footballer of the Year award.
He led Milan to victory in the 2006 to 2007 UEFA Champions League, finishing as the tournament's top goalscorer with ten goals. His outstanding performances earned him the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2007. He spent six seasons with Milan before transferring to Real Madrid in 2009 for a reported fee of €67 million.
Later career and international success
After four seasons with Real Madrid, which were affected by injuries, Kaká returned to AC Milan for a single season in 2013. He then joined MLS expansion club Orlando City SC, briefly going on loan to São Paulo before returning to Orlando and retiring from professional football in 2017.
He made his debut for the Brazil national football team in 2002. He was selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, which won the tournament. He also played in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, and was a member of Brazil's 2005 and 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup-winning squads.
