Who is Katie McGrath?
Early life and education
Katie McGrath was born in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland. She grew up in a household with her parents, Mary and Paul. Her father works with computers while her mother works for an Irish designer. She has two older brothers named Sean and Rory. Sean works as an online media manager and Rory works as a post-production producer.
Before her acting career, she attended St. Andrew's College where she studied the International Baccalaureate. She later moved on to Trinity College, Dublin. There, she earned a degree in history with a specific focus on Russian history. At one point, she entered the Ballygowan Be the Face of MTV competition as a young person.
How Katie became famous
Katie initially wanted to pursue a career in fashion journalism. She held a position at Image magazine before working as a wardrobe assistant on the set of The Tudors. During her time on that production, she received advice to try acting. This led her to send photographs to various Irish agents to start her path.
Her early screen roles included the 2007 TV-movie Damage and the play La Marea at the Dublin Theatre Festival. In 2008, she appeared in the films Eden and Freakdog. She eventually landed the role of Morgana Pendragon in the BBC One series Merlin, which ran from 2008 to 2012. She also auditioned for the role of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones but could not take it due to her work on Merlin.

In 2009, she played a young Princess Margaret in the Channel 4 docudrama The Queen. Her film work includes playing Lady Furness in the biopic W.E. And Zara Young in the 2015 movie Jurassic World. On television, she played Lucy Westenra in the series Dracula alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers. She also had a recurring role as Lena Luthor in Supergirl from 2016 to 2021. In 2016, she starred as the lead in the horror series Slasher. More recently, she appeared as Saskia in Secret Bridesmaids Business and played the Adjudicator in The Continental in 2023.
