Who is Kiera Chaplin?
Early life and background
Kiera Chaplin was born in Belfast on July 1, 1982. She is the eldest daughter of Eugene Chaplin and Bernadette. She grew up in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland, until her parents divorced in the mid-1990s. Kiera is the granddaughter of the famous actor Charlie Chaplin and the great-granddaughter of playwright Eugene O'Neill.
At age 16, Kiera moved to Paris and signed with NEXT Model Management. At age 17, she relocated to New York, moved to Los Angeles two years later, and returned to New York in 2006. Her early career involved working with top fashion photographers.
Modelling and film career
Kiera first gained major attention as a teenage model in New York, appearing in magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair and InStyle. She also graced the covers of Elle, Town and Country and Harper's Bazaar. During her teens, she worked with prominent photographers including Mario Testino, Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts and Terry Richardson. In 2002, she appeared in the Pirelli Calendar.
Kiera held a stake in Limelight Productions and took on supporting roles in several films. Her movie appearances include The Importance of Being Earnest in 2002, the Bollywood productions Yatna and Chaurahen, the biopic Sister Aimee, the Peter Fonda film Japan, and the Italian comedic drama Interno Giorno. She also served as a judge on Project Runway All Stars.
Entrepreneurship and philanthropy
Kiera created the Chaplin Awards in Asia in 2018 to honor actors and filmmakers who embody realism, diversity and courage. Past recipients include Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Yimou and Ge You. In 2023, she founded the Golden Cane Prize, which was awarded to Vachirawit Chivaaree.
She became president of the Fondation Fleur du Désert in Paris in March 2019, an organization founded by Waris Dirie. On January 10, 2020, Kiera opened the Desert Flower School for 400 children in Sierra Leone. She also participated in The Rally Aicha des Gazelles in Morocco in an electric car to promote sustainability.
In business, Kiera designed her own sneakers in collaboration with Hogan in 2013, became a member and shareholder of Bufarma, and founded the online retail boutique SybaBliss. In 2020, she released her first single titled Not Easy But Crazy after a duet with Simone Tomassini.
