Lee Min-ho was born on June 22, 1987, in Heukseok-dong, Dongjak District, Seoul. Raised by Buddhist parents, he is the younger of two children. During his childhood, Lee originally wanted to become a professional football player. While attending Namseong Elementary School, he joined a junior football class led by Cha Bum-kun. However, an injury during the fifth grade ended those athletic aspirations.

By the time he reached his first year at Danggok High School, Lee shifted his focus toward acting and modeling. He posed for several magazines and eventually met the future president of Starhaus Entertainment. He signed with the agency in 2005 to begin his professional acting career. Later, Lee enrolled at Konkuk University and earned a bachelor degree after majoring in Film Arts.

Television and film career

Lee started auditioning and landed minor roles in television shows like Romance, Nonstop, and Recipe of Love. His official debut main role came in the EBS series Secret Campus in 2006. In the same year, his career faced a temporary pause due to a serious car wreck that left him bedridden for several months. Upon recovery, he took on leading roles in Mackerel Run and other projects.

His breakthrough arrived in 2009 when he played Gu Jun-pyo in the hit series Boys Over Flowers. The role earned him the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actor and established him as a top star across Asia. He subsequently starred in popular television dramas including City Hunter, The Heirs, The Legend of the Blue Sea, and The King: Eternal Monarch. In 2022, he starred in the Apple TV plus period drama Pachinko.
