Marc-André ter Stegen began his professional career with his hometown team, Borussia Mönchengladbach. He started out playing for the club reserve team during the 2010 to 2011 season. After the senior team struggled in the Bundesliga, manager Michael Frontzeck was replaced by Lucien Favre. Fans demanded that the young goalkeeper be given a chance in the starting lineup.
