Who is Marco Parolo?
Early life and youth career
Marco Parolo was born in Gallarate, Italy. He started playing youth football at Torino Club of Gallarate between 1996 and 1998. He then moved to Soccer Boys of Turbigo from 1998 until 2001. After his Serie A debut, Cesena paid solidarity contributions to these clubs.
He played for the Calcio Como reserve team. In 2003, his side reached the quarter finals of the Primavera Reserve League. He also played in the 2004 playoffs where Como reserve lost to Inter in a 6 to 0 aggregate loss.
Professional start and early clubs
Marco made his professional debut on September 19, 2004, with Como. He played as a front lying midfielder and scored an own goal during that match. He stayed with the club through the 2004 to 2005 Serie C1 season despite the club being declared bankrupt in December 2004.
Chievo signed him on August 30, 2005. He spent time at Pistoiese in a co ownership deal and made 52 league appearances over two seasons. In 2007, he played for Foligno in Serie C1 and made 25 starts.
Rise at Cesena and Parma
Marco Parolo joined Cesena on July 10, 2009. He helped the team become the 2009 to 2010 Serie B runner up. This result earned the club promotion to Serie A for the next season.
He made his Serie A debut on August 28, 2010, against A.S. Roma. Cesena eventually bought his full rights from Chievo for 3 million euros and extended his contract to 2015.
Success with Lazio
Lazio announced the signing of Marco on June 30, 2014. The transfer fee was 4.5 million euros. He signed a contract extension in October 2017 that lasted until June 2020.
He became a key part of the starting lineup. On February 5, 2017, he scored four goals against Pescara. He also scored a goal in the Europa League on November 8, 2018, to help his team qualify.
International career and style
Marco received his first national call up on March 20, 2011. He was selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad by Cesare Prandelli. He debuted in that tournament during a match against England.
He was also part of the 23 man squad for UEFA Euro 2016. Antonio Conte named him to the team on May 31, 2016.
