Who is Maynor Figueroa?
Early career in Honduras
Maynor Figueroa began his professional path with Victoria in Honduras. He later moved to C.D. Olimpia in 2003, where he eventually served as the club captain.
During 2007, several international clubs showed interest in his skills. This included offers from Mexican side Club Toluca and various Major League Soccer teams, though he remained with Olimpia at that time.
Wigan Athletic and English career
He first arrived at Wigan Athletic on loan in early 2008. After a successful period, he signed a permanent contract with the club in December 2008. During his time in England, he made 179 Premier League appearances and was part of the squad that won the 2013 FA Cup.
Maynor Figueroa scored several well-known goals for Wigan, including a long-distance strike against Stoke City in 2009. That specific goal was selected as the Match of the Day Goal of the Season for the 2009–10 campaign.
Following his time at Wigan, he joined Hull City in June 2013. He played for the club until May 2015, which included a period spent on loan back at Wigan Athletic in late 2014.
Time in Major League Soccer
The defender moved to the Colorado Rapids in August 2015. He played ten matches for the team before being traded to FC Dallas in January 2016. While with Dallas, he helped the team win the 2016 U.S. Open Cup and achieve a Supporters' Shield title.
In 2019, he signed with the Houston Dynamo. He stayed with the Houston-based team through the 2021 season, appearing in numerous matches and scoring goals during his tenure there.
International career and family
Maynor Figueroa represented the Honduras national team for nearly two decades. Between 2003 and 2022, he earned 181 international appearances. He participated in seven CONCACAF Gold Cups and two FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2012 Summer Olympics.
In his personal life, he is the father of two children, Keyrol Figueroa and Dereck Moncada. He was born in Jutiapa, Honduras, and stands 180 cm tall.
