Who is Michelle Dee?
Early life and education
Michelle Dee was born in Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 24, 1995. Her father is Frederick Dee, a businessman and former actor, while her mother is the actress Melanie Marquez. Through her paternal lineage, she is a third-generation Chinese Filipino. Her family has a history connected to Chinabank, which was founded by her grand-uncle, Dee C. Chuan.
She attended De La Salle University in Manila, where she earned a degree in psychology. To expand her professional skills, she completed a certificate program in entrepreneurship essentials at Harvard Business School in 2021. During her childhood, she spent summers at a family ranch located in Utah, United States, and also spent time at a family hacienda in Mabalacat, Pampanga.
Beauty pageant career
Michelle Dee became well known in the pageant circuit starting in 2019. That year, she won the Miss World Philippines title and represented her country in London, England. During the Miss World 2019 competition, she reached the top 12 and won several special awards. She later competed for Miss Universe Philippines 2022, where she earned the title of Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2022.
In 2023, she achieved a major milestone by winning Miss Universe Philippines. She traveled to El Salvador to compete in the Miss Universe 2023 pageant. Michelle Dee placed in the top 10 and received four special awards, including the Spirit of Carnival Award and the Voice for Change Gold Winner. This achievement made her the most awarded candidate in the history of that specific pageant.
Modeling and professional work
The modeling career of Michelle Dee began in 2016 when she worked with the Bench clothing brand. Following a photoshoot for the brand, she was scouted and signed with Click Model Management in New York. Her professional versatility extends to hosting television programs and acting in various projects.
In February 2024, she was appointed as the ambassador for Chinabank. This role was significant as she became the first endorser for the company in one hundred years. This connection stems from her family history, as her relatives were the founders of the bank.
Advocacy and personal life
Since the age of sixteen, Michelle has been an advocate for mental health education and autism awareness. She works closely with the Autism Society Philippines as a Goodwill Ambassador and has collaborated with the Center for Possibilities Incorporation. Also, she supports LGBT rights and participates in the HepCured initiative alongside her father to promote hepatitis awareness.
In her personal time, she serves as a Sergeant in the Philippine Air Force reserves. She has also spoken publicly about her identity as a bisexual woman. Her family includes her sister Maxine Dee and several maternal half-siblings, including Manuelito, Mazen, Abraham, and Adam.
