Who is Nikica Jelavić?
Early life and career beginnings
Nikica Jelavić was born in Čapljina. He started his youth football training with a local club called GOŠK Gabela in the Bosnian league system. He later moved to the nearby Croatian club NK Neretva to continue his development.
His professional path took a significant step when he joined the junior squad at Hajduk Split. He made his debut for the senior team in the Prva HNL when he was 17. Although injuries impacted his time there, he eventually became a regular starter during the 2006-07 season.
Club career in Europe
After his time in Croatia, he moved to Zulte Waregem in the Belgian Pro League in 2007. He then transferred to the Austrian club Rapid Wien in 2008. During his stay in Austria, he scored many goals, including 18 goals during the 2009-10 season.
In 2010, he signed with Rangers on a four-year deal. He achieved success in Scotland by winning the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish League Cup. He scored 36 goals in 55 appearances for the club before moving to England to join Everton in January 2012.
Premier League and later years
Nikica Jelavić played for Everton for two years after joining for a fee of £5 million. He was the top scorer for the club during his first season and earned the Premier League Player of the Month award in April 2012. He scored 11 goals for the team during that campaign.
He moved to Hull City in January 2014 to seek more playing time. During his tenure with Hull, he scored four goals in the Premier League. After his playing career, he transitioned into management and currently serves as the manager for Lokomotiva in the Croatian Football League.
International career
Nikica was a member of the Croatian national team for several years. He made his international debut in 2009 and played for his country until 2014. He represented Croatia during major tournaments such as UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
