Who is Paul Robinson?
Early life and background
Paul Robinson was born in Beverley, United Kingdom. During his youth, he played local Sunday league football within the Hull Boys Sunday League. He later joined the York City youth system before moving to Leeds United through a trial.
He attended Beverley Grammar School during his upbringing. Before his professional career began, he developed his skills in these local football environments.
Leeds United career
Paul Robinson joined Leeds United at the age of 16 and turned professional at 18. He made 119 appearances for the club, including 95 league matches. During the 1996–97 season, he won the FA Youth Cup with the team.
His senior debut occurred on 25 October 1998, in a 0–0 draw against Chelsea where he kept a clean sheet. He eventually became the primary goalkeeper for the club during the 2002–03 season, playing in all 38 matches. In 2003, the supporters' club voted him as their Player of the Year.
Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers
In May 2004, he transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £1.5 million. He played 175 matches for the club, with 137 of those being Premier League games. He scored a goal from a 95 yard free-kick against Watford in March 2007. During his time at Tottenham, he won the 2008 League Cup.
He moved to Blackburn Rovers in July 2008 for a fee of £3.5 million. During his tenure, he served as the club captain. In 2011, the Blackburn Rovers supporters' club named him their Player of the Year.
England national team career
He represented the England men's national association football team and the England national under-21 team. He earned a total of 41 caps for the senior squad between 2003 and 2007. His full international debut happened in a friendly against Australia on 12 February 2003.
His first competitive match for England was a victory over Poland in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification game. His final cap for the national team came on 17 October 2007, during a match against Russia. He eventually retired from international football on 8 August 2010.
