Who is RedOne?
Early life and real name
Nadir Khayat was born in Tétouan, Morocco. He grew up as the ninth and youngest child in his family. In 1991, at the age of 19, he moved to Sweden to start a career in music.
The move to Sweden was motivated by the quality of music coming from the country. He felt inspired by influential acts such as ABBA, Roxette, and Europe. This transition eventually led to his professional development in the Swedish music scene.
Musical career in Sweden
In 1995, he transitioned into songwriting and production. He worked closely with Rami Yacoub, who taught him about music software and programming. During this time, he co-wrote songs like Funky and Joyful Life for the girl band Popsie.
RedOne later co-produced two albums for the group A*Teens, including Teen Spirit and Pop 'Til You Drop. He also worked on tracks such as Slam and Singled Out. His success grew when he wrote songs for Daniel Lindström's chart-topping album in 2005.
International success and US move
His global profile rose in 2006 when he produced Bamboo for the FIFA World Cup. He also created a remix of Shakira's Hips Don't Lie for the tournament. These projects helped him gain significant exposure before he decided to relocate to the United States.
He moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, in 2007 alongside his wife, Laila Aziz. Although he initially struggled financially, his career changed after meeting with Epic Records. He produced the song Whine Up for Kat DeLuna and worked on her debut album 9 Lives.
Record labels and current work
In 2010, he established 2101 Records as a joint venture with Universal Music Group. This label included artists like Jennifer Lopez and Havana Brown. He later transitioned this business into RedOne Records in 2014, which features acts like Ahmed Chawki and Wayne Beckford.
Beyond studio production, he has served as a Creative Entertainment Executive at FIFA since 2021. His professional achievements include winning three Grammy Awards and the Producer of the Year title at the 2011 Grammis Awards. He was also named BMI's Songwriter of the Year in 2009.
