Who is Rina Ikoma?
Early life and career beginnings
Rina Ikoma was born in Yurihonjo, located in the Akita Prefecture of Japan. During her elementary school years, she faced bullying, which made attending school difficult, though she continued to attend to avoid worrying her mother. Rina had studied dance since she was young, and with encouragement from her father, she decided to pursue a career in show business.
In 2011, she auditioned for the newly formed girl group Nogizaka46. She was one of the thousands of girls who applied and successfully advanced through the rigorous selection process. By August of that year, she was officially named one of the thirty-six first-generation members of the group.
Nogizaka46 and AKB48 career
Rina quickly became a central figure for Nogizaka46. She served as the center for the group's debut single, Guruguru Curtain, and continued this role for several subsequent releases, including Oide Shampoo, Seifuku no Mannequin, and Kimi no Na wa Kibō. Her consistent presence as the group's face made her a recognizable figure in the Japanese music industry.
In 2014, she joined AKB48's Team B following a group shuffle event, marking a period where she balanced duties between the two groups. She eventually returned to the center position for Nogizaka46's twelfth single, Taiyō Nokku, in 2015. Rina officially graduated from Nogizaka46 in May 2018 following a final concert at the Nippon Budokan, where she performed the track Against as her final center song.
Acting and media projects
Beyond her music career, Rina Ikoma has appeared in several film and stage projects. She played the lead character, Naomi Nakashima, in the live-action horror movie Corpse Party, which is based on a video game series. She later reprised this role in the sequel, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, released in 2016.
Her other work includes modeling for the brand Anna Sui in Asian markets and publishing a successful solo photo book titled Kimi no Ashiato, which topped the Oricon weekly sales charts. She has also appeared in musical adaptations, such as the stage version of Mahō Sensei Negima! Where she portrayed Negi Springfield. In 2020, she launched her own YouTube channel to share content with her audience.
