Who is Sidharth Malhotra?
Early life and education
Sidharth Malhotra was born in New Delhi, India. His father, Sunil Malhotra, served as a captain in the Merchant Navy, and his mother, Rimma Malhotra, is a homemaker. He grew up in a Punjabi family.
His schooling took place at Don Bosco School in Alaknanda and Naval Public School in Delhi. He later graduated from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College in Delhi. At the age of 18, he began a career in modelling. He pursued this work for four years before deciding to leave the profession because he felt dissatisfied with the industry.
Entry into the film industry
Before becoming a leading actor, he worked in film production. He served as an assistant director under Karan Johar for the 2010 film My Name Is Khan. This experience provided him with early insight into the Hindi film industry.
In 2012, he made his acting debut in the teen film Student of the Year, also directed by Karan Johar. He portrayed the character Abhimanyu Singh, who was a scholarship student competing for a title. The film was a commercial success. His performance earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut and the Stardust Award for Breakthrough Performance.

Following his debut, he appeared in the 2014 romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee alongside Parineeti Chopra. That same year, he starred in the romantic thriller Ek Villain, playing a reformed criminal. This film was a commercial success and established his position in mainstream Hindi cinema.
In 2015, he acted in the action drama Brothers, portraying a professional mixed martial arts fighter named Monty Fernandes. He subsequently starred in the 2016 family drama Kapoor & Sons, where he played an aspiring writer. Other well-known projects from this period include the romantic drama Baar Baar Dekho, the action comedy A Gentleman, and the mystery thriller Ittefaq. In 2018, he appeared in the espionage thriller Aiyaary, working alongside Manoj Bajpayee.
Shershaah and recent projects
One of the most significant milestones in his career was the 2021 biographical war film Shershaah. He portrayed the real-life Indian Army officer Vikram Batra, as well as Batra's identical twin brother, Vishal Batra. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video and became one of the platform's most-watched titles in India. It reached audiences in over 4,100 towns and cities across the country.
Following this success, he expanded his work into streaming platforms with the 2024 series Indian Police Force. His recent and upcoming film projects include the action thriller Yodha, the romantic comedy Param Sundari, and the fantasy film The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest. Sidharth Malhotra is married to actress Kiara Advani, and the couple has a daughter.
