Early life and family background
Sofia Richie Alexandra Richie Grainge was born on August 24, 1998, in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of the famous musician Lionel Richie and his second wife, Diane Alexander. Sofia has an older brother named Miles Brockman Richie. Her godfather was the singer Michael Jackson, and she has spoken about her fond childhood memories visiting his Neverland Ranch, where she became friends with his daughter, Paris.
As a child, she showed an interest in music, learning to sing at age five and the piano at age seven. She took vocal lessons from coach Tim Carter when she was fourteen. While she spent time in the studio with her brother-in-law, Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, she chose not to pursue a music career. Her runway debut took place in February 2016 at the Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection show in New York. Her design work continued in 2021 with a partnership with House of Harlow 1960, a lifestyle brand owned by her sister, Nicole Richie. This clothing line was sold through the retailer Revolve. Later that same year, she launched a capsule collection with 8 Other Reasons that included jewelry, bucket hats, and eyewear. She also released a clothing line in collaboration with the Macy's brand Bar III.
Personal life and relationships
Sofia was in a relationship with Justin Bieber during 2016. She also had an on-again, off-again relationship with the media personality Scott Disick between 2017 and 2020. In April 2021, she confirmed she was dating music executive Elliot Grainge, who is the son of Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge.
The couple announced their engagement in April 2022 via social media. Sofia converted to Judaism before their wedding. She and Grainge were married on April 22, 2023, in the south of France. The couple has two children together, a daughter born in May 2024 and a son born in March 2026.
