Stefania Sandrelli was born in Viareggio, Tuscany. Her parents were Florida and Otello Sandrelli. They owned a local pension. Her father died when she was eight years old. Stefania studied ballet as a girl. She also learned to play the accordion. She had an older brother named Sergio. He worked in music and died in 2013.
