Who is Stephen Fishbach?
Early life and education
Stephen Fishbach was born in New York City on January 24, 1979, to parents Constance and Ronald Fishbach. He grew up in Los Angeles, where he attended the Harvard-Westlake School and graduated as valedictorian.
After finishing high school, Stephen attended Yale University. He graduated from Yale University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Television career
Stephen competed on the eighteenth season of the television series Survivor, titled Survivor: Tocantins. He joined the Jalapao tribe and formed a lasting alliance with J.T. Thomas and Tamara Johnson-George. Despite being down in numbers after the merge, he reached the end and finished as the runner-up.
In 2015, Stephen returned for the thirty-first season of the show, Survivor: Cambodia, after winning a fan vote to participate. During this season, he found a secret advantage known as the steal-a-vote before being eliminated in ninth place.
Writing and podcasting
Stephen began writing a blog for People Magazine in 2009 during the airing of Survivor: Samoa. In his weekly column, he analyzed episodes and awarded a Fishy Award to the contestant who made the biggest impact, continuing this work until he stepped down in 2019.
In 2012, Stephen started co-hosting the Survivor Know-It-Alls podcast alongside Rob Cesternino. He also wrote a debut novel titled Escape, which was released in January 2026 and inspired by his personal experiences as a reality television contestant.
Personal life and family
Stephen has a sibling named Dan Fishbach. In his personal life, he met Julia Lemle on the social networking website OkCupid in 2014, and the couple got married in Washington on June 9, 2018. They welcomed a daughter together in 2020.
Before his marriage, Stephen dated fellow reality television participant Courtney Yates from 2010 until their relationship ended in 2013.
