Formation of the band Toto
Jeff Porcaro, who played drums for Steely Dan, mentored the young musician and encouraged his interest in professional studio work. His first job in the industry involved recording with Boz Scaggs. Following this, David Paich and Jeff Porcaro invited him to join them in forming a new band in 1976. The original lineup also included Bobby Kimball, David Hungate, and Steve Porcaro.
