Who is Takashi Usami?
Early career at Gamba Osaka
He started his professional path at Gamba Osaka. On May 20, 2009, he debuted against FC Seoul in the Champions League. He scored in that game at 17 years and 14 days old. This made him the youngest player in club history to debut and score.
During the 2009 season, he played four matches and scored one goal. Three of those were league games. By 2010, he played more often for the team. The J. League named him Best Young Player on December 6, 2010.
Playing in Germany
Takashi Usami moved to Bayern Munich on loan in June 2011. He joined the squad in mid-July. He wanted to improve his skills to compete with the first team players. On October 26, 2011, he scored his first competitive goal for the club in a DFB Cup game against FC Ingolstadt.
He later played for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In 21 matches for that club, he scored two goals. In the summer of 2016, he joined FC Augsburg. He appeared in 11 games during the 2016-17 season.
International career
Takashi played for the Japan U17 team in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He appeared in all three matches. In July 2012, he joined the Japan U23 team for the Summer Olympics. His team finished in fourth place after he played four games.
His senior debut for Japan happened on March 27, 2015, in a friendly against Tunisia. He scored his first international goal against Uzbekistan on March 31, 2015. He was part of the preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Honors and personal life
He won the J1 League in 2014 and the J2 League in 2013 with Gamba Osaka. He won the Emperor's Cup in 2014 and 2015. He also won the J.League Cup in 2014 and the Japanese Super Cup in 2015. With Bayern Munich, he was a runner-up in the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal.
Individual awards include the J.League Rookie of the Year in 2010. He was the Emperor's Cup top scorer in 2014 and 2015. He made the J.League Best Eleven in 2014, 2015, and 2024. Takashi is married to Ran Usami. He is 178 centimeters tall.
