Who is Taylor Armstrong?
Early life and real name
Taylor Armstrong was born Shana Lynette Hughes on June 10, 1971. She was born in Independence, Kansas. Her family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, during her childhood. She attended Union High School. Taylor was a cheerleader there and graduated in 1989.
Television career
After moving to California, she started an e-commerce business under the name Taylor Ford. Taylor Armstrong joined the first cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2010. This happened through her friendship with Adrienne Maloof. She was a main cast member for three seasons. She left the show in 2013. Taylor continued as a guest on the series until 2016.
In June 2022, she appeared in the second season of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. This project filmed in September 2021 at Blue Stone Manor. In August 2022, she joined The Real Housewives of Orange County. She served as a friend of the housewives for the seventeenth season. This made her the first American housewife to change franchises. She left the series on November 29, 2023.
Writing and advocacy
Taylor published a memoir in February 2012 called Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss, and Finding the Courage Within. Gallery Books published the work. It became a New York Times Best Seller. The book discusses her childhood trauma and domestic abuse.
She became an advocate against domestic violence after the death of her husband in 2011. Taylor Armstrong gave speeches at Northwestern University and Pennsylvania State University. She also spoke at the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence convention.
Personal life and relationships
Taylor met Russell Armstrong at a Beverly Hills restaurant. They married less than a year later. Their daughter, Kennedy Caroline Armstrong, was born in 2006. During the second season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, reports of domestic violence emerged. Taylor confirmed she suffered an orbital fracture from physical abuse. She filed for divorce in July 2011. Russell died by suicide on August 15, 2011.
On April 4, 2014, she married attorney John Bluher in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. In 2014, she and John appeared on the fourth season of Couples Therapy on VH1. On June 28, 2023, she came out as bisexual on The Real Housewives of Orange County. She noted a five year relationship with a woman prior to her marriage to Russell.
