Who is Tina Datta?
Early life and childhood acting
Tina Datta was born in Kolkata, India, to parents Madhumita and Tapan Datta. She grew up with an elder brother named Debraj. Her career in the entertainment industry began very early when she worked as a child artist.
At the age of five, she made her debut in the television show Sister Nivedita. Not long after, she appeared in the Bengali film Pita Maata Santan. Throughout her youth, she performed in several Bengali projects, including the movies Dus Number Bari and Sagarkanya, as well as the television series Khela.
Transition to film and television
As she grew older, Tina Datta took on more prominent roles in cinema. She appeared in Rituparno Ghosh's film Chokher Bali, which featured Aishwarya Rai. In 2005, she played the younger version of Lalita in the movie Parineeta, working alongside Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan. Pradeep Sarkar cast her in this role after meeting her in Kolkata.
In 2008, she acted in the Bengali mythology drama series titled Durga. In this production, she portrayed the character Kumkum Roy Choudhary. These early experiences helped establish her as a recognizable face within regional media before she transitioned to national television projects.
Breakthrough in Uttaran
The biggest turning point in her career occurred between 2009 and 2015. She starred as Ichcha Bundela and Meethi Bundela in the Colors TV production Uttaran. This show became one of the longest-running series on the network. Her work earned her significant praise, including the Producers Guild Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Following this success, she continued to work in various genres. From 2017 to 2018, she played Dhamini in the show Karmaphal Daata Shani. She also portrayed Jhanvi Mourya and Kundani Roy in the paranormal romance series Daayan, which aired on &TV from 2018 through 2019.
Reality TV and recent projects
Tina Datta has participated in several reality television formats. In 2016, she joined the stunt-based competition Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7, where she finished in 12th place. Later, she competed in Bigg Boss 16 from 2022 to 2023. During her 119 days in the house, she was noted as the second highest-paid contestant of that season.
Her acting career also expanded into digital streaming platforms. In 2020, she played Ketki Maheshwari in the ZEE5 crime thriller Naxalbari alongside Rajeev Khandelwal. This role earned her a Global Fame Award for Best OTT Debut. In 2023, she starred in the Sony TV series Hum Rahe Na Rahe Hum as Surili Ahuja Banerjee.

Outside of her professional acting duties, she maintains a consistent fitness routine. She is known to be an enthusiast of yoga and pilates. During the period of the COVID-19 lockdown, she shifted her focus from functional weight training to yoga practice. Also, Tina Datta is skilled in kickboxing and pole dancing.
