Biography

Who is Trézéguet?

Early life and nickname

Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan was born in Kafr el-Sheikh, Egypt, on October 1, 1994. He received his nickname, Trézéguet, at the age of nine from a youth coach. The coach, Badr Ragab, noticed a resemblance in playing style and appearance to the French footballer David Trezeguet.

This nickname was given to him to inspire him to become an international star. He joined the youth academy of Al Ahly SC, where he initially played as a striker. Following advice from coach Ali Maher, he later transitioned to playing as a midfielder in the academy.

Club career beginnings with Al Ahly

Trézéguet made his professional debut with Al Ahly SC in the 2012 CAF Champions League. He came on as a substitute for Mohamed Aboutrika in a match against Zamalek. He earned his first start in the same competition against Berekum Chelsea.

Al Ahly SC went on to win the 2012 CAF Champions League. Trézéguet was eighteen when he helped his team win the 2013 CAF Champions League. He was named the Best Egypt-based Player at the Youth and Sports Broadcasting annual gala in January 2015. He also helped Al Ahly win the Egyptian Premier League title in the 2014–15 season.

Move to European football

In August 2015, Trézéguet moved to Belgian side Anderlecht on a loan deal. His start at the club was delayed by a broken shoulder, which required surgery. He made his competitive debut for Anderlecht in December 2015, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 victory against Westerlo.

Anderlecht made his transfer permanent in May 2016, making him Al Ahly's second most expensive sale. He later spent the 2016–17 season on loan with fellow Belgian club Royal Excel Mouscron. He scored seven goals in 28 appearances for Mouscron, helping them avoid relegation from the Belgian First Division A.

International career

Trézéguet represented Egypt at the under-20 and under-23 levels. He made his full debut for the senior Egypt national football team in 2014 at nineteen years old. This debut was in a friendly match against Kenya.

He was included in Egypt's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Trézéguet played in all three of Egypt's group matches during the tournament. He has made over 100 appearances for his country's national team, scoring 24 goals.
