Early life and education
Tsukasa Shiotani was born in Komatsushima, Japan, on December 5, 1988. Growing up in the country, he developed an interest in association football from a young age and pursued his education at Kokushikan University.
During his university years, he built the foundation for his future athletic career before moving into professional club competitions.
Club career and achievements
Tsukasa began his professional club path with Mito HollyHock before transferring to Sanfrecce Hiroshima. With Sanfrecce Hiroshima, he won multiple titles including the J. League Division 1 championships in 2012, 2013, and 2015, alongside the J.League Cup and Japanese Super Cup victories.
On June 15, 2017, Tsukasa joined Al Ain on a permanent transfer. During the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup final with Al Ain, he scored against Real Madrid as his team finished as tournament runners-up. He later returned to Sanfrecce Hiroshima for a second spell starting in October 2021, capturing the 2022 J.League Cup and the 2025 Japanese Super Cup.
International career
Tsukasa represented the Japan men's national football team in major international tournaments. He received his first call-up for the AFC Asian Cup squad on December 15, 2014, ahead of the 2015 competition.
In 2016, Tsukasa played for the Japan under-23 national team at the Summer Olympics as an over-aged player, competing in all three matches as a centre-back. He later participated in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, where he scored his first international goal against Uzbekistan on January 17, 2019, and started in the final match against Qatar.
