Who is Vladimír Darida?
Early career and club beginnings
Vladimír Darida was born in Plzeň, Czechia. He began his professional football path with Viktoria Plzeň. During his time there, he also spent a period on loan at FK Baník Sokolov in 2011.
His tenure at Viktoria Plzeň included winning the Czech First League during the 2010–11 and 2012–13 seasons. He also secured the Czech Cup in 2009–10 and the Czech Supercup in 2011.
German Bundesliga career
In the late summer of 2013, Vladimír Darida moved to SC Freiburg. The transfer fee for this move was reported to be 6.2 million Euros. He made his debut for the club in the UEFA Europa League against Estoril Praia, where he scored in the 11th minute.
He also debuted in the Bundesliga against Hamburger SV later that same year. In November 2014, he scored a penalty to secure a win against 1. FC Köln. Following the relegation of Freiburg, he signed with Hertha BSC for an undisclosed fee.
While playing for Hertha BSC, he wore the number 6 shirt. He scored on his debut in a DFB-Pokal match against Arminia Bielefeld. He also recorded a league goal against Frankfurt in September of that season.
International team history
Vladimír Darida made his debut for the Czech Republic national football team on May 26, 2012, in a match against Israel. He was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2012, appearing in a quarter-final match against Portugal.
He served as the captain for the Czech Republic during UEFA Euro 2020. Although he briefly stepped away from international football to focus on his family, he agreed to return in March 2026. This return helped the team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification play-offs.
He was eventually selected as part of the 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His career with the national team also included a bronze medal in the 2018 China Cup.
Later club moves and achievements
After his time in Germany, he signed with Aris Thessaloniki in December 2022. Later, on May 23, 2025, Vladimír Darida signed a one-year contract with the club Hradec Králové.
Throughout his career, he has received individual recognition. In 2017, he was named the Czech Footballer of the Year. He remains an active athlete in professional association football.
